Day 6 #aprilforartistschallenge “How I learnt”
I’m a self taught artist, which means I haven’t had any formal artistic training. I paint what appeals to me, which has in turn appealed to other people. It has always intrigued me that different styles, calm or moody, vibrant or monotone, realistic or abstract attract different people. Some paintings sell quick, while others seem to wait longer for their forever home. I like to paint something that I will miss. (If that makes sense. I just want it to be loved as much as I have loved it). In 2014 I needed to paint realistic wood, so it was the first time I ever looked on line for help and Bingo! There it was- help with painting wood by Mural Joe( @muraljoe check him out), he was so down to earth, humble and extreme talented. Since then I have learnt from trial and error, from other ideas and classes on line and from other artists feedback.
When I’m doing a commission piece I am learning from the future owner what it is they want eg a particular beach with bluer water, smaller waves, etc etc. I will nit it out with them, go to that location, take a thousand photos with the right lighting, then go home, draft, paint paint paint, reflect, paint, isolate then varnish. It’s a process. So yes I actually learn from You!
